Beginnings’ End
Happy last day of September! This was a mighty fine beginning and thanks for being here with us. Today we close our first-ever issue of Rookie with all those pretty images that have been lurking in the background all month. Hope you’re ready to spend all weekend agonizing over what in the world could be going on for October and counting down to Monday! Wait, your entire life doesn’t revolve around Rookie? That’s … actually, that makes a lot of sense. I’m going to go get off my computer now. All photo credits go to Retrospace.

Hello, you. June’s theme will be LONGING. Unlike more-acute forms of desire like desperation or need, longing is a sweet ache—more pining for something than dying for it. It’s nostalgia, homesickness, boredom, a persistent feeling of lack, dreaming of escape/the future. It’s summer: summer homes & cottages, stuffy summer bedrooms, sun-bleached memories of summers past. The shadow of September that hangs over June. It’s secret hangouts, crushes, unrequited love.
