Every month we’re gonna feature a Rookie theme song by a different band that we love. For our first one, we couldn’t have done better than Supercute! Hailing from Brooklyn, New York, Supercute! is Rachel Trachtenburg, age 17, on vocals and ukelele; Julia Cumming, 15, on ukelele, guitar and vocals; and Olivia Ferrer, 12, on keyboards and vocals. For more about them, please visit their Facebook or their MySpace. We are refraining ourselves from making so many puns with “super” and “cute” right now.
We are proud to present, as our inaugural theme song, “Superrookie,” by Supercute! (!!)
(To submit your own band’s Rookie theme song, email submissions@rookiemag.com, and write THEME SONG in the subject line, please!)

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS ATHOUSANDTIMES YES!
Log in to replyYay! Are the lyrics posted anywhere?
I loved the line “open the door, it’s a non exclusive house party.”
Log in to replySupercool :)
Log in to replyI won’t listen to music using ukulele by myself, but this one is interesting! I like the mood of the song!
(I don’t know why, guess there are some stereotypes associated with ukulele that makes think of it as a less serious instrument or something too complicated to be played right for you alternatively, until you hear something that really fit you played with a ukulele, and the thing integrated in a band when the stereotypical ukulele player is some boy/girl scout animator playing it alone in the wild, singing badly and playing badly, so that even if you are interested in music a bit AND use of different instruments/reappropriation of things that aren’t instruments for music, you’ll have that idea in your head about ukulele)
(I think I’ll try finding more about it)
Lovely lyrics, lovely song!
p.s. I’ve never spend a whole weekend wishing it was Monday before
Log in to replyI love this – it is … super cute :D
Log in to replyand it totally gets the message of ROOKIE across
I love it!
Log in to replyLoved this! It reminded me of Kimya Dawson! Also, same as HollyGoLightly, I’ve been missing Rookie ALL WEEKEND.
Log in to replywow i love it!
Log in to replyHollyGolightly – I COMPLETELY AGREE WITH YOU.
Log in to replyI love this. I love Rookie. I thrive to be like the people who write for Rookie. But I am not. I am a boring teenage girl from a small town in England. Most days I watch tractors go past my house and dream of being as beautifully original as you guys.
I discovered Supercute! when Rachel was on stylelikeu, they are soo cool! Love this song!
Log in to replyThis is such a good song for the first theme song! I’ve been keeping up with Rookie since it went up and I love it!
Log in to replyLOVE IT!!!
Log in to replyI lovelovelovelovelovelove it. SO my style!
Log in to replyI tried writing the lyrics. However, I’m french and I don’t get it all:
Play me through all my teen magazines
Brainwash me, believe in a fantasy
What to wear, how much to pay
It’s time, my lair (?) (this time, my hair?)
How much to weigh
Don’t be consumed (?) (consulted?) (relate to the band’s advice, or what the magazines are saying? a word I don’t know, but maybe would translate as being illusionned, believing lies one is told)
A false attitude is what they construct
Now there is a new place to go
Music fashion fiction oh oh
Rock is love and look at you now (?)
You don’t have to be holy or properly
Log in to replyBreed, rebreed and believe you entry (?)
‘Cause as long as you ‘now
What you are are is all it take
To be great to my eye
And girl you’ll be the next big superrookie
Open the door, it’s a non exclusive house party
(rookie… rookie… rookie…)
Look that all, that day it’s insane
Open all over the nation
It was the star of the new generation
I think you’re pretty close. I have listened to this song about 50 times, so I’m going to give it a shot as well.
Flipping through all my teen magazines
Brainwash me, believe in a fantasy
What to wear, how much to pay
Style my hair, How much to weigh
Hey hey hey, don’t be consumed
A false attitude is what they construe
Now there is a new place to go
Music, fashion, fiction oh oh (?)
ROOKIE’s got a look at teen … (?)
You don’t have to be punky or properly
Read, read, read, it will leave you intrigued
As long as you know what you are inside
Let it show, don’t be afraid to RI-I-OT girl
You could be the next big super queen
Open the door it’s a non-exclusive house party
Look down at our grandkids and say
Log in to replyA phenomenon all over the nation
It was the start of a new generation
OK you guys I got the goods from Rachel Trachtenburg:
Flipping through all my teen magazines.
Log in to replyBrainwash me, believe in a fantasy.
What to wear, how much to pay.
Style my hair, How much to weigh.
Hey hey hey, don’t be consumed.
A false attitude is what they construe.
Now there is a new place to go.
Music, fashion, fiction a flow.
ROOKIE’s got all the good ya knowww.
You don’t have to be punky or properly.
Read, read, read, it will leave you intrigued.

We’ll look down at our grandkids and say.
A phenomenon all over the nation.
It was the start of a new generation.
“p.s. I’ve never spend a whole weekend wishing it was Monday before”
this!!
Log in to replyI’m totally out of the loop, because I haven’t seen Rachel since she performed with her mom and dad (Trachtenberg Family Slideshow Players) at Mr. Spot’s Chai House in Seattle in like 2002, when she was ~10. That family seems like it’s just pure fun. :)

Log in to replyi couldn’t download it… how do you do it?
the song is beautiful and captures the whole essence of rookie so well
if anyone could say how to download it… it would help a lot thanks!
Log in to replyOh my god – best idea ever! I can’t wait until there are 12 theme songs.
Log in to reply12 just seems like the perfect amount for a full album or playlist…
I agree with some of the other comments, I missed Rookie a lot over the weekend!

THIS IS SO PERFECT!
Log in to replythis song is super cute (duh)! i looked up the band and they’re really adorable. i’d love to download the song but i can’t figure out how…
Log in to replyAn answer from Zack, on our web team: “You have to right click and hit save file as. Not all browsers try to download things the same way, so for some files, and on some browsers, you have to tell it exactly what to do.”
Log in to replyAs a ukulele player and singer (and teen girl) myself I just love this! If only I had people to be in a band with.
Log in to replyI like the use of the ukelele.
Log in to replyThis song is flippin’ awesome! :-)
