Hello, you. June’s theme will be LONGING. Unlike more-acute forms of desire like desperation or need, longing is a sweet ache—more pining for something than dying for it. It’s nostalgia, homesickness, boredom, a persistent feeling of lack, dreaming of escape/the future. It’s summer: summer homes & cottages, stuffy summer bedrooms, sun-bleached memories of summers past. The shadow of September that hangs over June. It’s secret hangouts, crushes, unrequited love. Send what you’ve got here, and thanks. ♥

I’ll be stating the obvious by saying that these photos are awesome, but I thought I might as well go ahead and say it – these photos are AWESOME.
Log in to replyOh goodness, these are stunning. Really amazing.
Log in to replyI love the photo in front of the mirror.
Log in to replyIt reminds me of when I’m getting ready and my little sister watches me, fascinated for some bizarre reason. These are lovely.
So, so lovely, it’s like a still movie.
Log in to replyI totally know the feeling that these photos show. Totally lovely.
Log in to replyThese pictures remind me of why I always wanted sisters. My mom grew up the oldest of five girls. I must make sure she sees these! They tell a great story.
Log in to replyAlso the last pic, totally the best thing I have ever seen!
Log in to replyI really love these photos, they just evoke a happy child-like quality.
Log in to replyThe floral eye patch! I love it. These are so great.
Log in to replyI don’t always get along with my sister, but today she is coming to visit me – it’s the first time I’ll be seeing her in 3 months! (This is the longest we’ve ever been apart, except for the 15 months she was alive before me). I’m waiting for her to call me from the airport, and thought I’d kill some time on Rookie – how appropriate that these pictures are posted right now!
They are quite beautiful. Where were they taken?
Log in to replythis pictures are so cute love those outfits :O they are perfect!
I’m 14 and I’ve got a blog called Rita Has A Blog, it’s about a girl who loves fashion and being a teen, but has a little problem… facing her own spelling! just to try and make an international blog…

Log in to replyThese pictures are so beautiful! I don’t get on very well with my sister but these make me wish I did! I love the details–the necklace… the odd socks… the floral eyepatch… and of course that Mickey Mouse hat/headband thing! So awesome. I love Rookie because the pictures are always different to the norm and make me think about life :) This website rocks!

Log in to replyI am OBSESSED with the little girl in the purple glasses. I think she is my spirit animal.

Log in to replyLast picture is badass. Could be a movie poster.
Log in to replyI love these. SO much. I want that girl in the red plaid with the short hair to be my little buddy.
Log in to replyHeck yes! Toughness and adventure crosses age and (pseudo)gender lines! These photos are inspiring for FUN.

Log in to replyThese are Great!
Log in to replythese are so beautiful! What camera did you use? (pretending I know anything about anything photography related)
Log in to replythe eye patch was hard to maneuver in:/… it still looked really cool though:)
Log in to replyErica, these photos are outrageously great! I’m taking so much style inspiration from the girl in the purple glasses & pigtails! Also is that a sparkly sticker I spy on the tallest girl’s forehead? Love it all. xx
Log in to replywhy yes, yes it is ;)
Log in to replyLove #7 and those last 3.
I definitely remember those days as a kid. No sisters, but me, my brother and my cousins (all boys) used to hang out like this. Good times.
Log in to replySuch a good look. I’m so into these, they are really emotionally compelling. Loooove
Log in to replywhat a perfect explanation for the title. i never wanted to go inside for dinner.
–instead of an elephant
Log in to replyanna- These were taken at my Grandfathers ranch :)
thumb biter- Its a Pentax K1000 !
Thanks everyone!!!
Log in to replyThey’re just lovely Erica. What type of film were you using?
Log in to replyOh my goodness, these are amazing! I especially love photo 16! It reminds me of my childhood playing with the neighbourhood girls and never wanting to go back home. Secrets were shared, imaginary world were created…I wanted those days to last forever.
Log in to replythe little girl with glasses is so cute! loving the last pic too:)
Log in to replyThese truly are some of the best pictures I have ever seen.
Log in to replyVirgin suicide flashback. <3
Log in to replyChildhood flashback! It just strikes me how beautiful and magical my childhood was.. all the imaginary worlds me and my best friend created, the huts we built, the trees we climbed, coming home late for dinner because “we were just saving a tree stricken with a mysterious disease and we had to bandage it and give it medicine” whereas my mother looked down upon me, stricken – not with disease – but with astonishment over all of my always oh-so-creative excuses. And believe you me I was never nonplussed when it came to excuses ;)
And by the way may I just say (haha unintentional rhyming-skills) that the little girl with purple glasses is TRULY AWESOME! :)
And ofc – ROOKIEMAG RULES!!!
Sincerely,
your swedish little elf
Log in to replyOoh I’m getting all nostalgic for childhood and sunshine and whatnot. Amazing photos!
Log in to replyThese are seriously fantastic! They get better and better as the series goes on. My favorites are the one where the girl has the firecracker (stick on fire? not quite sure what it is) and the one where everyone is lined up skipping away from the camera. A good photo essay conveys mood and this one has it in spades. Not to mention is so nice to see all this friend/sister love!!!
Log in to replythese photos are sooooo cool I <3 number 5 xx
