Where the Sidewalk Ends

This photo set was sent to us by reader Sophia Bennett Holmes, a 17-year-old art student in Brooklyn. The pictures were all taken in her own neighborhood, Park Slope. Sophia styled the photos, and her friend Lua Beaulieu is the model. Hair by Sophia. All clothes, Sophia’s own. Sophia’s Flickr is here.

Hello, you. June’s theme will be LONGING. Unlike more-acute forms of desire like desperation or need, longing is a sweet ache—more pining for something than dying for it. It’s nostalgia, homesickness, boredom, a persistent feeling of lack, dreaming of escape/the future. It’s summer: summer homes & cottages, stuffy summer bedrooms, sun-bleached memories of summers past. The shadow of September that hangs over June. It’s secret hangouts, crushes, unrequited love. Send what you’ve got here, and thanks. ♥

Log in to reply5 is my favorite for sure. I love it so so so much! THE HEART GLASSES AND PIGTAIL BUNS, OMG
I almost feel like the first one doesn’t really match the rest. It’s too hipster-y and less “real” if that makes sense, I think. I still love it, but in a very different way.

Am I the only one who thinks Lua looks eerily like a baby Edith Zimmerman (from the Hairpin)? For comparison: http://www.flickr.com/photos/conversationdominoes/5958041844/
