I always hated ’70s-style classic rock, with its over-the-top guitar and drum solos and gaudy conceptualism. Or at least I thought I did. Then I became obsessed with Sam and Dean Winchester, who, on the show Supernatural, drive a black Chevy Impala on dark back roads, hunting demons, ghosts, and monsters. And I came to love the music they listened to—classic rock that’s loud, spooky, wild, and totally perfect for road trips. This playlist is a soundtrack for your own battles with evil—or just driving around on twilit summer nights.

Log in to replyI totally debated about eye of the tiger because that outtake may be literally my favorite thing from supernatural– perhaps literally my favorite thing ever. (I’m totally a Dean girl.) But yeah it didn’t fit my classic rock vibe. In retrospect, honorable mention would have been a good way to go. But EVERYONE should watch that video. It will make your day!

Log in to replyFree Bird always reminds me of the last scene in a kickass (and very brutal) horror film called The Devil’s Rejects. Rob Zombie directed it, and it’s about a family of insane serial killers. I don’t want to spoil it, but the last scene involves a slow motion drive down a road with Free Bird playing, and it is AWESOME and makes me cry every time.
