Queens of the Castle

Allyssa sent this album with this story: “This pair of traveling girls are into having a good time and making use of whatever they can get their hands on. They get stranded at a White Castle and go crazy. It’s about those sort of in-between parts of a journey, and how you can make the most of the seemingly mundane places on an adventure.”

Hello, you. June’s theme will be LONGING. Unlike more-acute forms of desire like desperation or need, longing is a sweet ache—more pining for something than dying for it. It’s nostalgia, homesickness, boredom, a persistent feeling of lack, dreaming of escape/the future. It’s summer: summer homes & cottages, stuffy summer bedrooms, sun-bleached memories of summers past. The shadow of September that hangs over June. It’s secret hangouts, crushes, unrequited love. Send what you’ve got here, and thanks. ♥

Log in to replyRookies please help me out if you can! I am trying to find bell bottom jeans and after trolling around the internet all afternoon, I can’t find any for under $50. Does anyone know of a store that might have some?
Log in to replyTry either a vintage or consignment shop. If it’s vintage the price is a lil steeper (not more than $50), but they are normally in good shape. At consignment shops you’ll have to dig around a bit and wash the items THOROUGHLY, but clothes cost as low as a penny on some days!
Hope this helps :)

Log in to replyit’s really easy to make your own! if you have a old worn out pair of jeans you can use them to add denim inserts to the bottoms, or you can use patterned fabric if you want to jazz it up a bit. Here’s a tutorial:

I love this so much. This album is just so . . . real!
Log in to replyhey guys could you help me out? i bought these bright pink docs a couple years ago but i’ve worn them like 5 times (maybe that’s pushing it ) because the color is not something i am a huge fan of and i wish i could have found a pair that wasn’t as bright. so how do i wear them so that i don’t look like i am trying too hard because when i do wear them i don’t think that they fit very well with my style (which is literally jeans and a tee shirt 99% of the time ).
Log in to replyI find that wearing really bright things with OTHER really bright things makes them kinda blend together nicely and not stand out so much.
Log in to replyYou could just wear it with jeans and then it will be like *Ohhh casual chic OH WAIT A SECOND LOOK AT THAT AWESOME POP-O-COLOR WHAT A STYLIN CHICK*
That’s just my HO (wait no that looks like ho… I meant Humble Opinion)
Love,

I agree with Gwen’s HO.
Log in to replyi think it’ll look really cool and laid back and new-york-street-style-y to just throw them on with skinny jeans and a neutrally colored t-shirt (like black or grey or white or a loose vintage one) and maybe a chunky sweater or moto jacket…then you won’t have to worry about coordinating colors, the pink will stand alone :)
Log in to replyIf you’re into glitter then why don’t you follow Marlena’s tutorial and cover them with it? I think that would look so rad. :)
Log in to replyWhat will it take for me to get my hands on that flag sleeved sweater.
Log in to replyI love the one of Lauren on top of the dumpster! Allyssa, these are great!

Log in to replywow I love these allyssa!
Log in to replyLife is so surreal…I check Rookie everyday and get a dose of tripping-related radness, am reading Jack Kerouac’s “On the Road” in anticipation of the film and just cause it’s a great American novel and all that, and have made a really excellent playlist of road trip music to make me feel like I’m on some great journey while shuttling around town.
I love the book so much…I’ve been to a diner to order apple pie and ice cream probably ten times since starting it.
So, this month rules, even though I have to start school which means waking up in the morning and not being able to do what I want all day long. That is significant.

Ah! I used to live on this block! Once walking home from class at Pratt a naked guy ran out from behind that dumpster, and was chased down the block by cops. Memories and chicken rings, so sweet.
