Hello, you. June’s theme will be LONGING. Unlike more-acute forms of desire like desperation or need, longing is a sweet ache—more pining for something than dying for it. It’s nostalgia, homesickness, boredom, a persistent feeling of lack, dreaming of escape/the future. It’s summer: summer homes & cottages, stuffy summer bedrooms, sun-bleached memories of summers past. The shadow of September that hangs over June. It’s secret hangouts, crushes, unrequited love. Send what you’ve got here, and thanks. ♥

number 5… the most gorgeous eyebrows ever
Log in to replyI just discovered this magazine, and it’s literally changed my life. It’s officially ranked third on my list of Best Things Ever (after slam poetry and roller derby). So obviously I love all the photos too, but I just wanted to point something out: while there are several articles about accepting diverse body types and feeling good about yourself, all of the models I’ve seen in these fashion photography posts are skinny and white. This seems inconsistent and hypocritical. Could you please try to have more diverse models?
Log in to replyI promise we are constantly working to make sure our casting is more diverse. We’re a tiny team, and while this is no excuse, I hope it at least offers some explanation as to why our attention to different parts of the site can be inconsistent. I’m glad you like the site and thank you for your input.
Log in to replyThat makes sense. Once again, I absolutely love this magazine– thank you so much to everyone who makes it happen.
I hate to sound mean or whatever, but I’d just like to point out that sometimes caring so much about diversity is counterintuitive. Why should you care so much? Is it because you want to feel included (and therefore not self confident), is it because you feel there is an explicit need to be diverse? Let everyone shine for who they are, not for their race as a part of a diversity program.
Log in to replyjust so you know, Roshanay is Pakistani and not white. I for one am trying to get used to addressing an audience as a whole but I also don’t want to make people into tokens and use someone just because of their race. I still do completely understand that Rookie should show a diverse array of people. I think we are doing a pretty good job though we still have further to go. I’m with Tavi on her points!
