Friday Playlist: Crystalline

Otherworldly hymns for this winter’s night.

These songs span all kinds of genres and types—folk, dance, rock, electronic, acoustic, etc.—but what they have in common is a haunting, ethereal quality that’s perfect for a cold winter night.

TOTALLY UNRELATED but I saw Tavi on the Colert Report (so good) but can he totally go through with his request to write a piece for Rookie???

    • Tavi January 26th, 2013 1:32 AM

      I hope he does!!

But wasn’t his pitch REALLY sketch in terms of policing female outfits? If he does it as a total joke (suggesting we all wear Amish dresses), that’s cool, but on the show it sounded like he actually wants to be one of the FASHION POLICE.

I didn’t think so — he seemed to be poking fun at his own dad-ness, the way parents are like “YOU’RE NOT LEAVING THE HOUSE IN THAT YOUNG LADY,” but maybe that wasn’t clear in the version of the interview that aired.

I am forever in love with clear tender and heaven music with interesting, liquid and infantile vocals. when I listen to this songs, I fell in my deep thoughts and emotions, like Alice fell in Wonderland. the only word I can say: wow. my breathing became cold and passionate.

Been playing this music all day and it has magically been the perfect accompaniment to all of my activities; studying anatomy, playing pool and making crowns with my bestie and working out our Wiccan names. <3

“I am the Shadout Mapes…the housekeeper.”

I though she was sooo creepy when I watched the Dune movie. I’m glad that a song named after her is equally eerie-sounding.

Grimes is the epitome of a perfect creature. Also, Kria is beautiful, although I feel she has a voice that takes getting used to, to enjoy its etheral, breathy quality.

Every song on this playlist had me squealing, inwardly, in a sort of frozen, wintery way. And my (grown-up)friends, who I’m steadily converting to Rookie. Thank you for pulling me out of my 90′s-boyband-on-repeat rut!
